Flies in the garden

This summer I've been really struck by the number of flies in the garden, especially in the sunny parts. Even to the extent that I've wondered whether there might be something dead somewhere :(

Not that pleasant but appreciate it's all nature ..

I've got two big pots of Eucomis autumnalis and on gardeners world last night there was a fleeting mention of some species being particularly attractive to flies - so I'm now going to keep an eye out on them.

Anyone else noticed more flies this year?

I take it you mean big bluebottle type flies?

We've got fewer than usual, thanks to a cat who catches and eats them.

We seem to have a lot of the big bluebottle type every summer but it’s not helped by the food waste recycling bins which release a cloud every time they’re opened.

We tend to get more in the shady areas by the house (which means they come inside a lot too). Don’t know what the answer is but they gross me out.

I've definitely seen more this year. Maybe having people around more and reduced bin collections during coronavirus has had an impact?
