Best containers for carrots?

I'm planning my garden for next year but am absolutely stumped when it comes to containers for growing carrots. I'd like to avoid plastic if possible. I've found apple crates I could line with old compost bags (with plenty of holes!) but they are only 25cm deep. I've already got seeds for standard size carrots so can't go for growing little ones. Thoughts anyone?

The crates would be rested up on bricks so maybe this means I don't need stones for drainage in the bottom which would give the carrots more room???

builder's buckets.
or drain pipes or chimney pots
for carrots you need 40cm at least really. the body of the carrot is only half the root!

@pinkbalconyrailing thank you! That's just what I needed to know. I've searched for 40cm deep containers and found some! ☺️

I know it's not what you want to hear but spending £2.99 on another packet of seeds for Parisian carrots or another short variety is probably a better investment than spending money on huge containers. I realise that the containers are a one off investment but the cost of compost (which will need to be regularly replaced) to fill a big container makes your carrots not very cost effective.

I'm in Central London so all my gardening is container gardening on balconies, walls and a terrace. I do grow a lot of herbs, fruit and vegetables but I have to be very selective in what I grow as I have limited space and no soil. I grow things that taste much better when they are home grown/fresh (strawberries, tomatoes, peas, beans, fresh garlic) or save money (herbs, globe artichokes) or prevent food waste as I can harvest smaller amounts than I could buy in a shop (cut and come again salad/spinach, spring onions, radishes).

Personally, I don't find home grown carrots much nicer than supermarket carrots and, if you aren't growing them in the ground, a lot more expensive. I am a bit shallow (no pun intended) though so I do grow a few as I like to grow vegetables that look ornamental and I like them as a foliage plant Grin Also, of course, you can't put a price on the pleasure of growing your own food...
