Can anyone identify this shrub?

I have this shrub in my garden, not sure what it is. It is becoming quite big and I don't know if I should cut it back. It grows in quite tall, long stems of about 3 ft long and has hanging down sort of bunches of pinky purple flowers which now contain small clusters of purple berries. Any ideas?? It is not a fuschia. Have looked on RHS website but no joy!

Sounds like a pheasant berry, aka Himalayan honeysuckle or flowering nutmeg. Very pretty IMO, and good for wildlife, but can become a bit rampant. So cutting it back wouldn't hurt, though I'd wait another month or so - its berries are lovely in the autumn.

How long have you had it. Could it be a cleredendron (not sure of spelling). We have one but it's more like a tree now although I think it had the shape you describe a few years back.

Sorry. Clerodendron apparently.

Pheasant berry it is - thank you! Yes very pretty but it is getting so big it is falling over. I just didn't want to kill it by cutting it back, looks like I should be ok.

Now - any tips for pruning roses?

We are renting a house with a lovely garden but as you can tell I don't have much of a clue what I'm doing!
