Indoor plants - does anyone have a Christmas pointsettia still alive?

For the first time ever, my pointsettia has survived. Nearly all the red leaves have fallen off, and it's just about doubled in size, growing lots of new green leaves.

Will it continue to grow for years, or do they have a short shelf life regardless? Very pleased with so far, I have to say!

I've also planted last year's Christmas tree in the garden, which is also growing really well, so shoud be sorted for indoor foliage this winter Smile

Yes, they can carry on for ages, I had one given to me by my MIL and that lasted for about 5 years. They are really hard to get to flower again with a good colour though.

If you want it to go red again, it needs dark nights, so from September it needs to be somewhere where it gets daylight, but no artificial light in the evening.

I kept one for about 3 years, but it succumbed to red spider.

The reason that they may not keep going is that many of them are just a rooted cutting, or, in the case of large ones, several rooted cuttings. So if they're not well-established, they may keep going, mainly on water, until Christmas but peg out soon after.
