Hello, can anyone tell me what these are please? They came with a bunch of flowers i was given by a friend. The flowers died but these were still thriving (they are a little bit worse for wear now) so my partner put them in the bathroom as they were really pretty. They absolutely stink!! Like a food sort of smell. I have tried google but I have no idea. Ideally I want to prevent buying them again lol.
TIA x

I'm no expert but are the agapanthus ? I have some in the garden tbh never noticed a smell

They could be alliums - which smell onion-y

FindMeInTheSunshine · 04/08/2020 16:51

Are they some kind of allium? Do they smell oniony?

Wilma55 · 04/08/2020 16:51

I think allium which is part of onion family.

I read this title as “smelly pants”
I was a combination of being bitterly disappointed and relieved when I opened it.

Ahh they could be alliums. Onions is exactly what they smell like!!
It's been driving me mad. I thought it was the neighbours cooking seeping through the walls or creeping through the open windows but turns out it's the sodding plants haha.
Thanks all

They look exactly like a 'mystery' plant growing in my garden which I have discovered to be elephant garlic... I get a slight onion smell off it if I lean in very close, but indoors they could smell much stronger. Beautiful flowers though. I'll be planting some more!

Definitely alliums - former florist here. They look great but are revolting when they're past it!

When they are totally dried they don't smell, and then make a lovely arrangement indoors, but I've only ever dried in the garden and then cut them when fully dry so might not work with these. If they're in water you could try just putting them in an empty vase, this may stop the water from smelling and they might dry out completely.
