Would hazard a guess at some sort of salvia?

KatyMac · 20/07/2020 11:31

Not something I am likely to have bought

Hmm

I'll see if it flowers

There is a good app called Plantnet I use that while out on walks when my ds asks what a certain flower or tree is. Very easy to use

ZaZathecat · 20/07/2020 11:38

Looks a bit like antirrhinum leaves to me.

Knittedfairies · 20/07/2020 11:44

It could be a willowherb, which is considered a weed. Wait until it flowers.

CarrieMoonbeams · 20/07/2020 11:49

I was going to suggest rosemary, which is a type of salvia as a PP said. Do the leaves have a scent? I'm thinking though that you'd probably have noticed if it was rosemary as it's got a strong smell.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/07/2020 11:51

I can’t see up close enough to see how ‘hairy’ the leaves are but it could be horseweed. Google a pic of it and compare to your plant.

BellaVida · 20/07/2020 11:57

I would say horseweed too

KatyMac · 20/07/2020 12:04

Bottom leave close up and top leaves

It smells geranium-y

Oh yeah, now I can see the bottom leaves, definitely horseweed (not to be confused with horsetail).

CrotchetyQuaver · 20/07/2020 12:18

i'd say that was probably rosebay willow herb

BIRDSbirds · 20/07/2020 13:43

Could be rosebay willowherb, which is a weed in my eyes.

But weeds are only weeds if you don't want them there OP. If you like it when it flowers, then you have yourself some wildflowers Smile

KatyMac · 20/07/2020 13:46

I'm cool with flowers - bees like it

I downloaded the plant app who gave up after 3 photos

Not a salvia, which has its leaves in opposite pairs up the stem. Rosemary has shorter, tightly rolled up leaves, so not that. Not rosebay either. Horseweed is not a name I've come across but I see it's Erigeron canadensis (formerly Conyza canadensis) more usually known as Candadianan fleabane, which is certainly a good contender. And also a possibility for all the other nondescript michaelmas-daisy like plants that have popped up on the other id threads.

Very interesting, thank you. I didn't know that about salvia.

I hadn't heard of horseweed either, but when I Googled it yesterday it seems to have quite a lot of medicinal purposes. Looks like it cures everything from hiccups to a broken leg (nearly anyway)!

MereDintofPandiculation · 21/07/2020 21:36

Salvia is a member of the dead nettle family Lamiaceae, and it's a feature of the Lamiaceae to have opposite leaves and a square stem. Many of the members contain aromatic oils, so we use them as herbs - eg mint, savory, thyme, marjoram, oregano, lavender, rosemary.

KatyMac · 22/07/2020 08:44

Totally lost guys, if it flowers I'll post a picture Grin

There’s is also a type of deep purple, flowering salvia sold as a plant at garden centres.

Having seen the other photos though, I don’t think it is one either now 😬

Whatever it is, very attractive foliage.

KatyMac · 22/07/2020 09:10

Purple would fit with my colour scheme; but I dont think I planted there - all I thought I planted there were bulbs/corms
