Neighbours huge tree

Any advice/ tips on anything I can do regarding a huge tree my neighbour has. I don't mind the tree, in fact I really love it. Only recently it's grown so much at the top that my garden is now constantly in shade for most of the day. It never was a problem before but my vegetable patch (which would get direct sunlight if the tree was a few feet shorter at the top) is not getting sunlight for most of the day.

Is there anything I can do? Could the council help? The tree is in a house opposite to mine so I'm not exactly sure which house it belongs to... my first step would be finding and speaking to the owners.. but it's a huge tree. I can't imagine them undertaking the task of trying to tame that beast. I fear for my poor veg patch.

And should have checked for updates. Glad you have a resolution.

The inbrief website link says you ARE entitled to light in the garden - and north facing gardens get sun all summer except for near the house where there might be a metre or two of shade.
Why are people posting who have zilch knowledge????

@NotMaryWhitehouse thank you! I agree, I love trees and it saddens me the neighbour wants it all cut but seeing how small his garden is and how it affects it, I don't blame him. The neighbour adjoining him also has a lot of issues with its root. I'm guessing this area was probably very green before all of our council houses were built here. I'm just glad that I might have a brighter spring and a more promising summer next year God willing

I'm glad it's getting sorted.
Lovely big trees are amazing but not a sycamore in an enclosed urban area. It's a sad problem! We had light issues with a neighbours' one and an out of control eucalyptus and they all agreed - we all chipped in to help. They had it removed and planted far more suitable apple and pear trees.

Name change for a more fitting name incase it gets all confusing. Smile
