Weed or plant- help please

Are these weeds or bluebells?

I was given some bluebells bulbs last year and I am now the proud owner of these two clumps of green.

Are they weeds or the start of something promising?

Thanks Smile

They don't look anything like my bluebells, which have straight, grass like undivided leaves.

Vodkacranberryplease · 18/07/2020 12:02

Definitely not bluebells which only have leaves earlier in the year! And are typical bulb leaves. If there's no flowers yet I'd say weeds,

Beebumble2 · 18/07/2020 12:16

Not bluebells, definitely, but the leaves look like Penstemon. Was the land a cultivated garden? If not most likely to be a weed.

Well cultivated garden and regularly weeded do maybe I'll leave them there for a minute then.

Gutted they aren't bluebells

It's a bit late for bluebells. Hopefully this is a lovely plant that was planted alongside the bluebells!

I hope it is a lovely plant. That would be a lovely surprise Smile

I was going to say they look like penstemon, which are also lovely. Keep them for a bit and see what happens!

They are definitely not bluebells, which have long strappy leaves.

They are definitely not bluebells, which have long strappy leaves. And as people are saying, bluebells grow early in the year, when they can get light because the trees aren't in leaf. Once the trees have developed their foliage, the bluebell leaves die off. I'd be very surprised if your bluebell bulbs didn't grow, more likely that they didn't flower, and you didn't spot the leaves earlier in the year.
