Heartleaf philodendron isn't happy

He's been thriving for years but suddenly his leaves are growing all patchy and speckled. I've been careful not to over/under water and he gets plenty of light. Any idea?

Mine went the same and then died after a few years. I haven't a clue why, but I'm wondering if I should have put it in a bigger pot...

Hmm I read that they like being pot bound?

Do you have any outdoor space. I’ve just put all my plants out for a wee holiday and they are all looking a lot happier.

Do you ever get any water on its leaves? It can cause bacterial disease. I know leaf spot can cause yellow/brown patches and pinprick type black holes. You can get sulfur sprays to deal with that, or I remember someone saying they mixed baking soda and oil - may want to google that yourself though first.

I would suggest a repot too just in case, sometimes fertilisers can make plants go weird too - I can give my own aroid soil mix if that is any use to you. I mainly have calathea and other tropicals though.

They also like humidity. Has it been moved at all? Have you changed any light conditions?

Just to add, I did also read that some philedendron can get darker patches on their leaves as they age. Does the plant look healthy in general other than the spots?

Thanks for your tips @BarbedBloom ! I do mist my philodendrons yes! Perhaps too much water sitting on the leaves. I also use fertilizer once every few weeks, I never used to.

I will try a repot tomorrow. A lot of the leaves seem to be affected sadly and some have yellowed and dropped off so plant definitely isn't looking it's best although it's still growing like crazy.

In that case I would definitely be checking the roots
