Or could they be eating other pests?

TIA

Ants on a plant usually indicate an aphid problem, the aphids are attracted to lush new growth...the ants milk the aphids. I'm trying to find an environmentally friendly way of removing the aphids without killing good insects.... hopefully someone will come along with a suggestion 🤞

Spray them with a mixture of dilute washing up liquid.

We book garlic cloves in a saucepan of water, let is cool and then put in a spray water with some soap liquid. Worked really well on my infested broad beans.

Aphids are soft bodied and can be easily squashed with your fingers to keep infestations down. They generally don’t cause too much of a problem to the plants. When ladybird numbers pick up they’ll help too. Get squashing!
