What can I plant now?

I’ve just cleared the overgrown beds in my garden.

Ultimately I want to plant mostly shrubs and perennials but I’m guessing it’s not the right time of year? What should be doing now?

Garden is south facing but partly shaded by tall trees

I'd probably wait until Autumn to plant shrubs, but perennials should be fine so long as you water them well.

I’ve been buying and planting lots of shrubs in my garden since March, as long as you water well and feed you should be fine. It’s more expensive buying bigger plants in pots, than bare root or corms but I couldn’t bear to wait. You can always move them if you change your mind.

You could think about bulbs fir the spring and or get a late flowering wildflower mix that you can sow in August which also gives you early spring flowers.
Or grow radishes.

I have planted roses, cotoneaster, potentilla, hydrangea, lilac, lavender, clematis, pyracanthas and numerous ferns. Basically if I can buy it I'll plant it. I also like to buy from the reduced table at the garden centre so some have not been in great shape when they went in. They're all doing really well, but I do shade some of them if it's too hot.
I'm at home all the time now and not much chance of going away for a holiday so am here to tend and water as much as required.

Same here - been planting loads - its fine as long as you water and tend to them for the first few months. It has to be one of the perks of having to work from home.
