So I've got 3 hanging baskets and they're really flourishing. Stupid question but do they just die after the summer or do they come back again each year?

I'm no gardener as you can probably tell!

Die and you then plant them up again in the next year

I thought as much but wanted to hope it wasn't so 😂

The one out the front of my house has just gone totally beserk to the point I fear for the iron bracket holding it up. They clearly like gallons of water and baby bio!

Thanks

is it just petunias in that basket? they will die off

Beebumble2 · 25/06/2020 06:18

Baby bio is expensive, they’ll do just as well on cheaper Tomato feed.

ComeBackIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/06/2020 09:23

Yes, it depends what they're planted with, but those look like petunias, which won't survive he winter.

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/06/2020 10:21

You could plant a basket with winter hardy perennials, but the showier things tend to be annuals, or perennials originating in warmer climates than ours, so they'll die off over winter.

morethanafortnight · 25/06/2020 22:27

Yes, it depends entirely on what you plant in them. Pretty much all summer bedding plants used in hanging baskets are annuals (that grow, flower and die in one year) or are frost-tender, so the winter would kill them off.

LittleWingSoul · 25/06/2020 23:23

Next year you could go for ivy, cyclamen in spring and geraniums... If you are lucky the geraniums might overwinter! They do in mine Smile
