Is this edible?

This is growing alongside my salad beds. I'm hoping it's spinach which I tried to grow last year but didn't germinate.

I've tasted it and it doesn't have a strong taste.

I'd like to know for sure before I start feeding it to whole family!

Looks like it, but I’d be wary about eating it unless I was 100% sure. It’s a long time since I grew Spinach.
It is possible it grew from last years seeds, I’ve got some lovely random broad beans from last year.

That looks like spinach. I'm not going to advise you to eat it. When I've eaten something dodgy, I've eaten it myself first, and left some in a prominent place for my family to show the medics.

When I say spinach, what it actually looks like is a member of the beet family coming into flower, swiss chard, "perennial spinach" or even a yellow or white beetroot.

But I wouldn't give a confirmed id from a photograph.

Thanks. I ate a few leaves yesterday and haven't died yet.

I might just keep it for own salads, the kids will be relieved!

If you're short on salad leaves eat the nasturtiums instead Smile

changedforoutinggardeningques · 25/06/2020 13:09

Ooh thanks @WaffleCash I've never tried them, do they taste nice?

I like them, they're mildly peppery. You can eat all parts, leaves & flowers

In that case, use the big leaves as spinach and the small leaves as a bulking agent for salads. Add marjoram, nasturtium, chives, garlic mustard, bittercress for taste.
