Plant suggestions?

I've bought a beautiful arbour with three sets of trellis and want a plant to grow up it. It needs to be green all year around, ideally have white flowers at some point and not be too dense as I like the light to come through.

It will be in a pot, it's shaded in the morning, but then full sun all afternoon/early evening. I don't really like roses.

Any ideas? I should probably add that I'm pretty good at killing things, so easy to look after would be helpful!

Summer Jasmine

WildCherryBlossom · 21/06/2020 12:35

Trachelospermum jasminoides en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Trachelospermum_jasminoides1215878198.jpg

Not a true Jasmine but quite easy to grow and lovely fragrance

You could probably grow some clematis through the trachelospermum jasminoides. The leaves of the TJ would conceal the bare stems of the wisteria out of season. A Montana would give you flowers in Spring before the TJ comes into flower in summer.

You can get white wisteria but it's not evergreen.

Have a look at the Montana grandiflora www.rhs.org.uk/plants/210221/clematis-montana-var-grandiflora-(m)/details

Deciduous but combined with the evergreen TJ would work quite well. Grows very fast and usually flowers well.

Apple blossom clematis would do it, but you need a big pot.

Or clematis Armandii - evergreen, fragrant and white flowers would definitely fit the bill. Supposed to be easy to grow but I've never had any luck with it....

You can get climbing hydrangea but they do get absolutely massive and no particular fragrance. Probably better suited to covering the wall of a house.

I second @WildCherryBlossom's choice of Trachelospermum jasminoides

Wow thank you! In the garden centre queue!
