Trees to provide privacy and shade in garden

Does anyone know what trees/bushes I could plant along my fences to provide a little privacy for my overlooked garden?

The house is a new build and one side is a bit overlooked. I have absolutely zero gardening experience. I have googled but honestly still don't know where to start.

I have checked my paperwork and we can have trees as long as they are not "excessive in size" or blocking too much light for the neighbours.

So looking for something that's about 7ft tall, preferably quite bushy.

I also think adding green to the space and shade for the children will be nice.

You can espalier fruit trees, although they won't give you privacy in the winter.

Rowans are pretty trees and do not grow very tall quickly. The difficulty is getting a small tree that you would have to wait years to reach maturity, as small ( when mature) trees take a while to grow, or to get a larger tree now, to give instant privacy and risk it getting much larger.
Some shrubs grow quite large and would give privacy, such as Amelanchier which can be trained as a tree and gives interest most of the year. A semi mature version would be between £50- £100.

Why don’t you just plant a hedge and keep on top of it. Something like laurel grows fast, and you can easily keep it to seven foot.

Beech hedges tend to keep their leaves all year round if you’re looking for privacy.

I suppose it matters whether you feel want screening from people looking down on the garden from upper floors/house on a hill or just neighbours immediately adjacent .

Trees would give you screening from above but they do make it harder to grow stuff in their shade .

Pittosporum grows fast ,I think it's more of a shrub than a tree but mine is 7ft and would be more if I didn't trim it .It's evergreen and variegated ,different kinds and I have seen it as ahedge .

Sambucus nigra might work ,v pretty but it is deciduous .

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I will look into all the trees bushes mentioned above.

I didn't think of a bush, because there's a fence there so I thought I couldn't plant a big tall bush as it would grow outwards as well and take up garden space.

Just looking to screen the upstairs of other peoples houses really, that's the only part that's overlooking.

Op another option could be adding trellis to the top of your fence and growing climbers through that,
