Plant ID app says elderflower

Hi all. I've got a sapling (or half a dozen) appeared between the hedge and shed. I used a plant ID app and it says it's sambucus nigra. Do you think it is? There are no flowers.

Or is it something I will regret? I quite like the fact it's covering the hole in the boundary but not if it's something invasive and going to cause problems. Confused

Thank you from a v novice gardener Flowers

Looks like elder to me. A native tree/weed that doesn’t spread. Personally I like them. Easy to trim, can make cordial with the flowers and sauce with the berries, good for wildlife. If you don’t let them grow too big then they are easy enough to remove.

I’ve got a couple of self seeded ones that I may remove when I want the space.

Thanks Pea. I hope so as it would brighten up that area Smile.

I have several in my hedge. I let them flower and then trim the hedge to remove the berries.

Looks a lot like it. It thrives on absolute destruction so do not be afraid to cut it back when you want to. I cut one back to ground level last year and it is already 5ft tall again this year. I genuinely think you’d see them grow with the naked eye if you sat there long enough.
