Patio Slabs

We are having a new patio laid and am thinking of laying Indian Sandstone slabs but undecided on colour etc. I quite like the idea of dark ones as feel this looks quite contemporary but our house is 1920s with very informal (almost cottagey) feel. Is anyone able to send me photos of their patios so I can get an idea of what it might look like. Also thinking of having a pergola over part of it as an entertaing/dining area - would love to see photos of yours if you have one too. Thanks

I went with the darker option and two years on it looks absolutely shit! My fault for not getting it sealed at the time it was laid. I'm now in the process of getting it sealed to make it look darker but I've a feeling it will be ongoing maintenance 🙈 Once it's been sealed I will post a photo.

Pale colours can look contemporary too and creams/beiges would tone with the pinks you often find with cottage garden.

Why does it look awful @userxx? I didn't realise you had to get them sealed. Would love to see some photos.

Outside paving takes a lot of hard wear, bird poor, algae, moss and atmospheric damage. As your in a 100 year old house, with a cottage garden feel, maybe York stone, which weathers well, might be an option.

Try youtube
Try tops tiles website.
Builders merchant websites like travis Perkins

I jet washed the concrete slabs a few months ago - they don’t half brighten up the back of the house when clean, so we’ll be looking at a light replacement whenever the time comes.

eBay has plenty of companies but also people selling pavers/slabs.

I like York stone but it’s an expensive option.

Make sure you get the gaps between stones properly filled to prevent soil then weeds growing.

@everyonebutme Its gone from a lovely dark charcoal colour to a wishy-washy light blue colour :( As Bumblebee said they take some battering! The elements have taken the colour out of them.

I've ordered the sealer and will report back.
