What is this and can it be saved?

DS decided to lob his toy dinosaur at a potted plant yesterday (thanks pal!) and managed to knock off 3 of the stems. I don't actually know what kind of plant it is (it was donated to me, half dead and needing a new pot) and I've never actually thought to get it identified.

So. Firstly, can anyone tell me what it is please, and secondly if the bits that have been knocked off can be saved? I have compost but nothing fancy, would they root if I put them into some compost or would I be wasting my time?

Thank you!

I think that's a money plant (or Jade plant). They're pretty tough.

Yes, money plant or Crassula ovata. You could use the broken-off leaves for cuttings - this video from the RHS tells you how.

yes, Crassula. In my experience, if you just leave the broke off stems on the soil, they will root. I think it's not an accident that they break off so easily at the nodes, U think it's the plant's method of vegetative reproduction.

My mother's crassula drops little bits, which develop roots even when they land on the floor!
