Was hoping someone could identify this plant for me. It's from a packet of wildflower seeds but the packet has long been binned and I can't remember what was in it. I think I've worked out what everything else is but I'm stumped by this ugly little thing. I'll probably be able to identify it when it flowers (if it flowers, going by our success with everything else we've grown 😂) but I'm curious now Grin thanks!

Looks like Fox tail Millet. The birds will love it.

No, it's not millet, which is a grass. It's an orache (Atriplex sp)

Thanks both :) guess I'll see when it flowers. How about these pink flowers? I thought they were corncockles but I'm not so sure now they've flowered. They're small, probably just over a cm in diameter.

Look like Corncockle to me.

Beebumble2 · 04/06/2020 13:19

Ah but don’t have a similar bud structure.

Spam88 · 04/06/2020 14:49

Ok actually I think they might be cowcockles.

No, not corncockle, which has long green sepals longer than the petals. Also a little small for corncockle, and the markings on the flower aren't well enough defined. Cow cockle is a new name to me, but I think you are right - I was going to say it looked like another member of the Caryophyllaceae.
