Early spring flowering plants for pink/purple/blue border

I would like some plants that flower early for a pink, purple and blue flower bed. I already have bluebells and will get some hellebores and maybe primulas if I can find some colours I like.
Does anyone have any other suggestions please? Dry sandy soil.

My pink camellia flowers early, normally end of March.

Lots of grape hyacinths- they look amazing en masse, a solid, deep blue.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 30/05/2020 21:22

There is a camelia there but I don't think it has ever flowered. Sad
Grape hyacinths are a good idea.
I forgot to mention there are cyclamen there already.

As well as those previously mentioned, muscari come in pink and blue (and white, for that matter), dwarf iris, chionodoxa, puschkinia scilloides (sp?!) . Later on, so mid spring, anemones and ranunculus.

Ceanothus (blue) is April to May - too late for you?

WellTidy · 30/05/2020 21:24

I forgot crocus.

Anemone bulbs come in the exact shades you want. Plant them in the Autumn.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 30/05/2020 21:29

columbines - I have pale pink and purple ones.

Forget me nots! Mine were amazing this year. They're annuals but if you shake the seeds out when you pull them up after flowering they come back year after year.

Agree with grape hyacinths, the cheapest 'common' sort are the best blue imo.

Other early spring purples/blues from crocuses and Iris reticulata. Some of the small tulips flower quite early and might include the sort of colours you're after.

When you say 'flowers early', which months are you thinking of overall? ...bluebells are late rather than early spring, but at the same sort time as those there are lots more options in the colours you want ... pulmonarias, forget-me-nots, honesty, clematis Montana.

I've got some photos with those on this thread which may give you an idea and of course they've got dates on them

I've just realised I don't think anyone has mentioned one of the easiest early purple plants (with some pinkish ones available too) - pansies and violas. Also for pink, Bellis daisies. They're annuals though the ones I had last year reappeared this year.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll put some of these in in the Autumn ready for Spring.
