When to transplant potted plants?

I recently bought a load of potted plants to put into a tiered travelled area at the front of my house which is South facing. I would like to transplant then today as I have the time but I'm not sure if conditions are ideal. Is it too warm today to do it, should i wait for it to be cooler, overcast etc?

I’m far from an expert but I’d probably plant them as planned and water well. I tend to find plants flag a bit when first planted but soon perk up with being looked after.

I tend to do mine early evening when its cooler. I water them in well. I dont have scientific reason for it though although have vague recollections of googling it and someone advising to do in the cooler part of the day!

They do usually look a bit worse for wear for a few days and then pick up again. That is unless my cats immediately dig them up which has happened to a few this year.

I would do it in the heat but first I'd put them in a bowl/tray/sink and sit them in a few inches of water for 30 minutes to insure that they are well watered. I'd also water them in well once I'd planted to make sure the compost was also watered.

TheClud* I'd make sure that your plants are good for full sun first. It's very hot in a south facing area at the moment, esp. with the drying wind we've got at the moment. Then keep well watered (with rain water\or filtered if possible) late at night.

I do them when the mood strikes me and when I have time. Make sure they are very well watered (I give mine a soak in a bucket before they go in) and water the hole too before you pop them in. They will be fine.
