I am very new to gardening having previously lived in a house with a minute garden to now having a house with a large garden. I am managing to keep the weeds at bay and the garden neat and tidy however I know very little about plants.

Anyway, I have a young rhododendron, which was planted last autumn. It seems happy enough in that it's covered in beautiful bright pink flowers but I've noticed that it's leaves (some, not all) have spots on them. What causes this and how can I get rid of them?

Mine is the same, except the plant is enormous. Never had one before so I’m not sure what to do, didn’t have any joy with Google.

I have a garden with decades old rhododendrons and in past years have had leaves with brown and scorched edges. all the problems were , I think, to do with lack of rainfall and not enough water so I stopped cutting and trimming them and gave then extra water in hot Springtime. Haven't had problems this year with lots of rain, and i would say not cutting them after blooming also has really helped.
Not an expert though. Rhodoes are just happy at the moment Smile

Mine seemed sad even before the dry spell. They have had a few branches removed but I don’t deadhead them or anything, as they’re about 5m wide and 4m high! I’m hoping they’ll bounce back. Do they die of old age?

A couple of mine have had these this year. I spent a few weeks giving them a good feed and water and they've perked up a lot, but still a bit spotty!

@peajotter I think they can live a long time - see lovely inspiration on gardenista: www.gardenista.com/posts/garden-visit-memories-of-daphne-du-maurier-manderley-mystery-novel-rebecca/

Ok so maybe there is nothing wrong with mine then? It's flowering beautifully and seems happy other than the spotty leaves. I've fed it, and watering it regularly so I'll just keep doing that and hopefully it'll continue growing. Rhododendrons really are very beautiful.
