How much do you spend on plants/ pots?

We've a small garden and I've gone a bit mad since lockdown as a nursery near us has been supplying direct due to the garden centres being shut. I've probably spent 300 quid on plants pots and some small shrubs and one bush

Dh thinks I am mad but it makes me happy and I hadn't realised before how expensive plants are! We have rubbish clay soil so not many nice plants will grow so I've got lots in pots!

I've bought plants that will come back next year such as magnolia rhodedendron camellia clematis dahlia so surely it's an investment. I see our garden as another room so it's worth it

Don’t even ask. I recently discovered that you can buy plants on eBay. Uh oh.

As little as possible.
I always head for death row in the garden departments and buy the reduced plants that are slightly past their best, I take cuttings & seeds from friends/family gardens and, divide and create new plants from plants I love where possible. I got a stunning reduced dahlia last year for a couple of pounds, no way would I have bought it at £15. This year I have taken a tuber cutting so now have a new one growing free.

The only thing I spent a quite bit on were some fruit trees a few years ago.

That sounds like such a lot for £300!! We are also just doing our garden up and have so far spent an absolute mine!! The plants are costing a fortune!!! Yesterday I bought two planters that cost £800. I bought three trees online today that cost £550 all together. I don’t know how much we wi have spent by the end of all this work but it is definitely expensive.

I’ve spent £700 on plants (including some trees) and pots since garden centres reopened Blush in my defence I had a big birthday recently so I had a lot of monetary gifts to spend.

I recon I normally spend about £50/£100 a month on things for my garden but I don’t drink it smoke or buy expensive clothes or shoes so 🤷🏽‍♀️

£150 in the garden centre on Sunday on feed (must have) a rose (fine), bamboo supports (fine), dahlia tubers (good investment), nerine bulbs (investment) but the rest was tender bedding plants (great for colour this summer but no more).

You’ve done well for £300.

I still need an obelisk for the jasmine which has burst into life, a solanum, lots of lupins, lots of astrantia (for a shady spot) and I need to put in an order for bare root aquilegia for next spring.

And my garden is pretty full. It is ever ending.

The garden is where I do my recreational spending, but I try to do it on the cheap by buying a lot of plants at summer fetes and through my gardening society. I've also grown a lot from seed this year (lockdown has given me more gardening time) but I did answer the call to support the horticultural trade and spent quite a bit of money (by my standards) on mail order plants.

I miss the plant sales that I usually buy from at the summer fairs in May.

More like £50

This has made me happy as also been very surprised about how much I've spent on plants and how much water I've needed for my pots and hangers. I try to get pots on Gumtree freebies and have joined a local plant swap fb group.

I agree with you OP, I consider the garden another room (my favourite room)! in the house, and I also consider plants an investment.

You could spend £££ on a luxury cruise, and be home in 10 days. Your garden is something that will bring you happiness every day for the rest of your life Smile

I've spent about £250 in lockdown.

Has made me madly happy just watching them flower.
