Can anyone tell me what these grubs are and how to get rid of them?
They seem to live within the roots of plants below the soil and have detached the main stalk from the roots of one of my plants and I've now found them in the roots of my strawberry plants!
Any ideas?

They are about 1cm long.

That looks like Vine Weevil larvae, you'll need to treat asap as they can spread to other plants and are a bugger to get rid of.

They look like vine weevils

I used to have these these, they kill off grass as well.

Have used nematodes to get rid of them in the past, very effective and doesn't harm pets or children.

Yep vine weevils, I’ve just repotted loads of plants because of these little b*s.
Nematodes are the best way of keeping them at bay, you can also get a bug clear solution to use mid summer when the adults lay their eggs.
I put the grubs out on a dish and the birds were very grateful.

Thank you all for your responses. As soon as I googled vine weevils I got to work!
Dug up all of my strawberry plants and cleaned them In buckets of water down to bare roots. I did see one had dug it's way into the main middle root of one so I'm sure there's some I've not got but they look pretty clean now. There were LOADS of them. I've cleaned the pots and put new compost in.
I left the roots submerged in water for a fair few hours so hopefully the little buggers have drowned!
There are some plants in huge pots that have started wilting so I'm really worried the beasts are in there too!
I'll get some nematodes and hopefully get on top of the problem!
Thank you all!

Starlit That's a good response. Learn to recognise the adults and stamp on them, loathsome though it is to kill a mother. If you have a dish with straight sides like a souffle dish, birds will appreciate the grubs.
