Why have my ceanothus leaves turned yellow?

Does anyone have any ideas please? Bought it 3 weeks ago, it’s trained on a frame (horizontal variety). It was very green and glossy and happy in its plastic pot. I potted it into a larger container with general compost as it’s on a first floor balcony.

It’s SW facing, hot in the sun and although generally sheltered may catch the wind when it’s blowing hard. It flowered and looked great.

In the last 2 days the leaves have turned yellow and are dropping off.

Advice on the web suggests - it’s under-watered, it’s over-watered, this is what they do after flowering. Though I haven’t seen that on any ceanothus before.

It could be under-watered as it has been quite dry until earlier in the week. It could be over-watered as I have given it a good soak a few times and it rained a fair bit earlier this week. It was also very windy about a week ago.

That was quite an essay! Please let me know if you have any insights...

99% sure it's wind scorch. In strong dry winds and sunshine, plants have an almost imposible time of it. The water evaporates from the leaves quicker than the roots can suck it up to replenish it.

Is there somewhere you can shelter it a bit more out of sun and wind for a few weeks to see if it recovers?

Ceanothus are touchy about their roots too, and don't like them being disturbed, which you may have done when repotting it.

Thank you! I will move it and see if things improve.
