What are these plants?

I've just taken delivery of some plants from a company redistributing plants which would have been headed for garden centres. These three are unlabelled. Anyone able to tell me anything about them?!

They are all in three inch pots, to give you some sense of scale. The one with lots of small leaves and the one with long, narrow leaves and a slightly obsene looking bud are both about six inches tall. The other is about four inches tall.

They came with four nicely labelled plants that are all alpines, but I don't think there's any guarantee that they are compatible!

The first one might be Agapanthus, with a bud, are those roots coming out of the bottom? Agapanthus roots are quite thick and fleshy. Otherwise it could be an Allium.
The second one looks like a hardy fern - Cyrtomium fortunei.
No idea what the third is, sorry!

Agree with Nan on the fern.
Wonderful plant. I have several

Agree that the first looks like Agapanthus. Lovely flower.

Agapanthus is lovely. I’d agree it looks like that. You hit lucky there.

My friend has just had exactly the same thing with mystery plants - I guess you used the same company! Friend's third mystery plant was berberis thunbergii. The leaf shape of yours looks like that could be a possibility - does it have sharp thorns?

AChickenCalledDaal · 17/05/2020 10:17

Ooh - I love Agapanthus. That's a result!

I didn't know you could get ferns with wide, flat leaves like that. But having looked up some pictures, I agree Cyrtomium Fortunei looks like a match.

No thorns on the third one. MIL thinks the it might be a dwarf Hebe. Having looked more closely, the leaves are definitely paired up in the way that a Hebe does, so I think I'll assume she's right unless proved otherwise!

Another friend also used the same company but all hers were labelled. I'm guessing they have been overwhelmed by demand and are now just pushing them out as fast as they can!

Mmm then third does look a bit hebe like, it also has the overall shape of a lot of salvias but the leaves look a bit too rounded, guess we'll know more when it flowers. The second is also say was some type of fern Smile

AChickenCalledDaal · 17/05/2020 21:39

Better late than never, I have an email with a link to info about the unlabelled plants! The mystery hebe-like-thing is apparently Coprosma Mini Mac, good in containers and recently introduced from New Zealand.

Don't think it's going to fit where I've planted it for long, but time will tell.

Where are they from?

AChickenCalledDaal · 18/05/2020 09:04

plantsavers.co.uk/

They only deliver in SE England and I have the impression they've had a lot more orders than expected, so it's been a little slow. But worth waiting for and I've got some nice-looking plants that I probably wouldn't have normally bought.

A couple were a bit dried out (and unlabelled), but they are perking up nicely. On the other hand, a couple of the others were bursting out of their pots and ready to divide, so I've ended up with more than I bargained for.

Download the ‘picture this’ app and it will tell you!

The last one looks a bit like a pittosporum to me. We have a similar one with dark stems.
