Lockdown has meant we have actually gone into the summer house for the first time in two years! It's gone a little wild. There is a bird nesting in one corner - can anyone identify it for me? Thank you!

How big is she?

Tolleshunt · 15/05/2020 22:22

I’m no expert but could it be a wren?

HappyHammy · 15/05/2020 22:24

What a sweetie

Mydoglicksplates · 15/05/2020 22:26

I don't think wren, is that the juvenile?

HappyHammy · 15/05/2020 22:26

Is it a fledgling blackbird

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 15/05/2020 22:31

Fledgling thrush? There are plenty of fledglings about at the moment.

34leaper35 · 15/05/2020 23:12

Thank you so much for replying - it's smaller than a robin but bigger than a sparrow

Fledgling song thrush don’t see many about these days.

IllegalFred · 15/05/2020 23:29

Could be a baby robin

Chillipeanuts · 15/05/2020 23:31

Looks like a thrush.

Beekeeper1 · 15/05/2020 23:35

It is a fledgling robin

fessmess · 15/05/2020 23:39

It's definitely a fledgling.

CherryValance · 15/05/2020 23:43

Looks like a baby robin to me

NippityNopNoop · 15/05/2020 23:55

Looks like a slightly skinnier version of the baby blackbird we had in our garden

If it is be warned - when their old enough their parents leave them under bushes on purpose Shock

it's a baby robin I think

CherryValanc · 16/05/2020 00:13

My first instinct when looking at the picture was robin fledgling. I see I'm not alone.

Plexie · 16/05/2020 00:25

Let's see if I can do a clicky link.

It's a fledgling isn't it? - you can still see the "gape" - the lighter colour at the side of its mouth that will make its mouth very obvious in the dark of the nest when its beak is open. Adult birds lose this.

Thank you so much - having observed from afar during the day, an adult robin is flying in and out so I think you are correct with fledgling robin! You are all so knowledgable- thank you!

@WitchWindows sorry, as soon as I posted 'shut up shop' I realised my mistake! The summer house is often at the bottom and their is a large gap, all round under the roof - in fact it's more like an observatory- no wonder birds are nesting in there Grin

@NippityNopNoop that photo - what a great expression!
