Does anybody know if this is a weed please?

It survived over winter in this pot. It was about 10cms tall in Feb but had since put on another 20cm. It has quite a woody looking stem. I planted some flower seeds around it which are growing nicely but I should probably take this 'weed' out sooner rather than later, if that's what it is.

It looks like a self-seeded tree of some kind. Unless you want to grow a tree get rid of it.

Whether you take it out or not is entirely up to you and whether you want it growing there. There is no definition of a weed above "plant growing in the wrong place".

Looks like some sort of self-seeded prunus, possibly cherry or blackthorn.

Thank you all. I have a flowering cherry in another pot, so presume it's floated over from there.

I have no idea, but just wanted to say I'm so jealous of your weed free patio!

Puds11 · 15/05/2020 18:47

Looks like a willow sapling. Possibly grey or goat.

@waltzingparrot I love your potted garden I am a total novice but would love to create similar would you mind sharing what's on display!?

I prefer the term indigenous plant...

Thanks for the lovely compliments. I'm really no gardener - usually just buy things from the garden centre, stick them in a pot and hope they live.
My MIL did advise me once to feed everything with tomato feed, so all the pots get it and they do seem to bloom, brighter, longer, bigger etc.

@Labralion : did you mean the actual plant names. I'm a bit useless on that front - never keep the labels, but I do know that the bright red billowy plant is a geum called Mrs Bradshaw.
