Hi all. Can anyone ID this for me? And is it evergreen? I want something I can put in as a border which is low maintenance.

Looks like a plant which I know as snow on the mountain - often grows on rockeries. It does well in all sorts of unpromising places ( I I have it on a north facing low wall) but it is quite thuggish and quickly takes over a bed. I wouldn’t choose it personally (it was here before us and I have cleared it a few times but each time I take my eye off it, it comes back! )

Thanks. Yes it has taken over the whole roadside flowerbed where I spotted it. I don't want that to happen so I'll look at other border plants.

Snow in summer?
'vigorous'
My mum has it in a low wall bed around the patio. It does spread a lot.
Very pretty and drought tolerant.

Yes, Snow On The Mountain (Cerastrium), as Honeywort says, inclined to grow anywhere and capable of getting a foothold even in dry conditions with very little soil where one would think nothing would grow! Yes, foliage is evergreen, but tends to look tatty after flowering. However, if you clip it, even quite hard, with garden shears, it will green up again nicely. Do be aware that snails often seek refuge under it, it can be a snail hotel, and, of course, no gardener really wants to increase their snail population, unless you have herds of famished hedgehogs or ever hungry thrushes to feed. Pretty plant though!

Thank you. I don't think I want something which is likely to spread vigorously as I'm pretty sure it will get the better of me! Can anyone recommend any low maintenance border plants which looks nice and are quite low lying? It's to go along the side of the drive in a very boring straight flowerbed. This area doesn't get a lot of attention as it's not a front garden you would be spending any time in. It's more just to improve the overall look.

Oh and no to more snails!! I'm pretty sure they've been chomping on my clematis Angry
