Recommendations for hardy plants for outdoor pots?

Got some pots on the drive out front which gets the sun in the morning but shade in afternoons. I'm not good at gardening and everything I put there seems to die. Sick of having sorry looking pots out front and spend a fortune on bedding plants each year to make them look better.

After some recommendations for hardy plants to grow in patio pots that don't mind a bit of shade and don't just look good during the flowering season.

Hit me up experts!!

Do you mean hardy as in perennial? Lots of bulbs do well in pots and come up every year to give early spring colour. Also Sedum - I have a tall one in a pot which butterflies and bees love. The seeds heads look good well into the autumn. And Busy Lizzie (Impatiens) are an annual bedding plant which does well in shade and flowers for months.

I would go for a variety of summer and winter heathers. Colour all year and easy maintenance.

Hardy as in hard for me to kill!! Forgot it was an actual gardening term. Sturdy would be better!!

What have you tried previously?

Fuchsia, which I was really good at not killing in my old house but just can't get to take here, African marigolds, roses bushes, lavender

Think problem is shade and wind that whistles past?

Bulbs do ok. My tulips and daffs look lovely every year, but short lived and leave empty gaps behind

Japanese acers.

Oh yes. We've got some acers. We had three but one died, but the remaining two are doing ok

Depends on the size of your pots. I grow lots of things in pots/planters and hydrangeas do well in sun and shade.
Hebes are very easy to look after and are evergreen with lots of varieties.
Roses also look good on pots. Apart from my bigger structural plants, I usually move the seasonal flowering plants away when they’re over. So the bulbs were replaced with the Azalea pots, which will go to the back when the flowers are over and the Dahlias, hydrangeas and roses brought to the front.

Thanks everyone
