Christmas Tree

I'm hoping someone can help me. We had for the first time this year, a real Christmas tree in a pot. We've put it in the garden, in a bigger pot, and am really hoping it will survive until next year. However, since the warmer weather it's going all brown. I do water it, but not sure if too little or too much. And it's in the shade. Can anyone help me please ? I'd like to save the tree!

It needs lots of water and a feed with miracle grow. Christmas trees are often just cut at the roots by the suppliers. To keep them going, and you can they need some TLC.
Repotting was a good start.

Put it in the shade?

Thank you, it is in the shade.

I shall get some miracle grow when allowed.

How much water does it need? A whole watering can? Or more?

I remember when growing up we planted out the xmas trees a couple years in a row, now 25 years later they're towering like skyscrapers at the end of the garden. Didn't do anything with them, just planted them and left them, in full sun too

Did it have a root ball when you re-potted it? I got a small potted one the Christmas before last and it has survived so far. I top it up with water every few days. I give it a good amount. You might find garden stuff in a supermarket when doing your normal shopping

Yes I’d give it a whole watering can once a week, unless the weather is very wet or scorching hot. They do originate from cool wetter climates.
Monty Don said that they will be fine in quire small pots, up to 40cms. Apparently restricting their roots slows the growth down.
Mine’s in year 3 and will probably do another couple of Christmases inside, until it gets too unwealdy, then I’ll decorate it outside.

If it's going brown, I wouldn't feed it just yet. Get if back to health first.

You need lots of water. And Bob is right in that most trees used as Christmas trees are not shade loving plants, but if it's under water stress, as it sounds, then the last thing you want to do is move it into the sun and increase water loss through leaves.
