How much and what type of compost?

I’ve got a flower bed that measures 4m x 1.2m that is currently empty (apart from the weeds) but I’m planning on planting it in the next few weeks. I’ve cleared tons of ivy and brambles over the last few months, and I’ve heard that they can ‘kill’ the soil and suck up the nutrients - not sure how accurate this is but it made sense to me Grin

I’m planning on ordering compost and getting the bed ready, but I have no idea how many litres I should get or if I should get a specific type.

Any help on buying compost, or other hints and tips on getting the soil ready would be very much appreciated Smile

buying compost sounds really expensive.

As organic matter is used in bulk, applying 5-10kg (10-20lbs) per square metre (yard) bulk sources are usually much more economical

As it’s already been a flower bed, I would buy a couple of 50L bags of soil improver. They are often sold 3 for 2 in DIY places or nurseries. Our local nurseries are delivering, so yours might be.
Dig it well in, then maybe smaller a fertiliser, such as chicken pellets before you plant up.
