Pruning a euphorbia

Any tips on how to prune this one? I don't know which species it is. I've just been cutting off stems that annoy me but I'd like to regain control a bit..

I'm no expert but in my experience the stems start to wither once they have past their best. This can take a while. And sometimes a stem can flop too if the light isn't great. I tend to leave them alone and just cut the stems off at the root once they've past their best.

Be very careful, wear gloves and glasses, the sap is plentiful and can be strongly irritant.

It looks like Euphorbia characias ssp. Wulfenii. The flowering stems are self-limiting, and will dry off in autumn. Be very careful if pruning, as PerspicaciaTick says, the sap is poisonous and irritant, and can spurt out under pressure, so wear gloves and eye protection too.

Thank you. I remember Monty Don putting on gloves so I've remember to do that.

So I cut down the flowering spikes after they are done - can I just cut down the leafy bits whenever? It has gotten rather lanky and falls over the plants in the border.
