Salvia rescue?

I have a wonderful Salvia 'Love and Wishes' (bought last year) which remained in flower over the winter after the mild weather we had in London.

I couldn't bring myself to cut it back, and it hasn't actually died back at all but is now looking a bit sorry for itself - very leggy although there's still a little foliage on the woody stems. It's in a container rather than a border, if that's relevant.

Am I too late to cut it back for any new growth this year? It's one of my favourite perennials in the garden and now difficult to replace if my neglect had sounded the death knell! Any advice?

I would give it a trim, maybe to where it still has some leaves. I have several salvias, which were cut back a bit in autumn, and got a further cut about a month ago. They are now producing lots of new growth, so I would go ahead.

Thank you @NanTheWiser - I'm going in with the secateurs!

I have revived a salvia in a pot by pruning right down and feeding, and then watering fairly regularly. I had assumed that they liked to be quite dry (I dont know why, they just.look like that kind of plant)! but after googling, learnt that they like a bit of water. Said salvia is now looking hopeful
Good luck!
