Possibly the same bee in the garden everyday

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows anything about bee behaviour. We recently moved to our house in November so will be our first summer.

We have noticed since the nice weather started that there has been a bee hovering in the same place in our garden. It doesn’t tend to move much. I feel like I’m in its way but it’s doing nothing but hovering.

Just curious about this behaviour.

Is it definitely a bee?
It sounds like a hoverfly. We have them in our garden a lot at the moment. They look like bees but just hover in the same spot. My dc keep getting scared and shouting "wasp!" everytime they see them.

It looks like a honey bee. I’ve seen a couple more that keep coming up to it then flying off. It could be a hover fly though. It looks like both Tbf. Not used to all these insects. Moved from terrace house with paved courtyard to a semi detached with lots of grass and trees around. Not looking forward to the wasps of which I’ve already seen a couple.

We’ve had a little queen bumble hovering around for about a week. Think she is sizing our wall up for a nest.

It could be a bee fly, maybe Bombylius major. They are furry and look very like a bumble bee, but have a long proboscis for nectar feeding. They have been active in my garden for several weeks now, and they tend to hover, more so than bees do.

Bees tend to use the same routes like footpaths, we used to get one flying along our bedroom window near the gutter.
There are also burrowing bees active in the lawn at the moment and leave tiny hills, they look a bit like wasps in size but are red/brown colour.
I used to fear wasps as we have fruit trees and used to use traps but this seemed to encourage more, now I just ignore them.
