I'm keen to put my tender plants out. Too soon?

Because of lockdown (and I was early this year anyhow) I have lots of seedlings. I have potted most of them on, and some are ready to go. I've moved them from inside to the unheated greenhouse that I close at night.

It's still only about 1, maybe 2c on the coldest nights here. I want to start hardening my plants off. Is it ridiculously early? There's veg seedlings and bedding plants.

What are you guys doing? Waiting? (I can hear my mother saying ne'er cast a clout...)

Too early. Wait until May. Just another couple of weeks. We could still have a frost

Depends whereabouts you are. Weather is supposed to brighten up this week. Maybe put them out in the day and bring them in at night.

@joystir59 I know you're right. I'm just desperate! I want the space back!

@TheMandalorian yeah, that's what I'll do.

There are other jobs I can do. I'll start the seed bed. Get the spuds in. Get organised.

I grow extra plants for my sons primary school. So I have shit loads! I'm going to see how much I can use and see where I am afterwards. See if I can keep any going in case they go back and I can get planting at the school before the summer comes.

We’ve sown radish and green leaf crops outside and they’ve germinated. In the warm house we’ve started the courgettes, chillies, cucumbers and tomatoes. The tomatoes are large enough to to go into the unheated green house.
In the greenhouse are a variety of beans and peas, all sprouting. The bedding plants are also in the greenhouse at various stages of development. On warm days we leave the greenhouse doors open and the automatic vents.
They’re all managing at night with the drop in temperature. It is useful to have a Max/Min thermometer in the greenhouse so you can see what the plants are coping with.

I've known hard night time frost to hit right up until the second week of may - York area, so I wouldn't leave them out over night just yet.

Start to harden them off through the day by putting outside, but then take back inside at night.

It's a bit of a pain, but worth it.

Could you make your own cloches to protect a few things you plant out now? Large glass jars or I have quite a good one made from cutting a huge plastic bottle

Yeah, I'm ready to put the cucumbers and tomatoes in the ground of the greenhouse. If I could get in there! I'm going to sort it all out this afternoon. Thanks all.
