Does anyone know what this is please? I’ve suddenly got loads of it and don’t remember whether we had it last year. I’m hoping it is something nice, but I’m prepared to find out that it is a particularly difficult to remove weed....

It looks like wild garlic. Does it smell like garlic if you crush a leaf?

Mrsmorton · 13/04/2020 19:20

It looks too pale to be wild garlic. Also it seems to be flowering now. The leaves look like tulip leaves?

NanTheWiser · 13/04/2020 22:30

Alstroemeria?

Hagisonthehill · 13/04/2020 22:32

Look like tulip leaves to me too.Can you see any flower stems?

buckleten · 13/04/2020 22:33

Is it lilyof the valley?

SirVixofVixHall · 13/04/2020 22:34

Could be Astroemeria, leaves look less ribbed, but it might be.
You have an allium in there too by the look of it.

Hagisonthehill · 13/04/2020 22:39

Relooked,not tulip.
Whatever it is looks as if it needs thinning out after its flowered.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/04/2020 22:41

Is it lilyof the valley?

I don't think so, mine is coming up and doesn't look like that.

Yes, the head at the front and the slightly shinier leaves.

Beebumble2 · 13/04/2020 22:46

Leaves look like alstroemeria and allium in the front.

Purpleraindeer · 14/04/2020 06:39

I’ve googled alstroemeria and I recognise it’s flowers from last year so that’s definitely it. Thanks everyone!
Also good to see others think the thing in front is alium. That’s what I thought too but wasn’t sure. It’s a voyage of discovery in my garden this year! Grin

Someone said I need to thin out the alstroemerias once they’ve flowered. What does that mean? Do I just pull the leaves out or do I let it wilt?

OP posts:
SirVixofVixHall · 14/04/2020 14:54

I think the alliums are Nectaroscordum Siculum ( SicilianHoney Garlic)

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/04/2020 15:37

Someone said I need to thin out the alstroemerias once they’ve flowered. What does that mean? Usually means either pulling out whole plants and discarding, so the remaining ones have more space, or digging a clump up, separating it into smaller clumps, and replanting them more spread out.
