What tree is this?

We found this young tree growing amongst a very overgrown hedge in our garden. Now we've sorted the garden out and DP has carefully dug it up and replanted in a better position but just wondered if anyone could tell me what it is?
I've attached some pics of the leaves, hope they've worked!

Not entirely sure, but I think it is a variety of salix (willow). Are the leaves slightly furry?

HennyPenny4 · 11/04/2020 16:58

Goats willow is prone to poppiing up everywhre.

There's an app you can download where you take a photo of plant and it tells you what it is, plantfinder I think.

Looks like lilac to me, but that's the second time tonight I've said that so maybe I've just got lilac on the brain Grin (I've been doing a lot of pruning and clearing around our one the last few days - not pruning the lilac itself though, don't worry! - so been getting a good look at it).

@yamadori yes the leaves are slightly furry

Thanks all, I'll try plantfinder and see what that says.

@wishywashy6 Good idea, I agree with another pp that it is probably goat willow although willows have a tendency to hybridise so you might not find the exact thing.

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/04/2020 11:42

Willow. Lilac doesn't have furry leaves.

wishywashy6 · 12/04/2020 11:48

The app said Goat Willow so we're thinking it's most likely that!
Thanks for all your help, I'm not very green fingered!
