Hi moved into our new home about 5 weeks ago and it's the first time we have ever had a garden. I'm going to get stuck in even though I have no clue! Smile

Can anyone please help me to identify this plant. I'm not really a fan of it and it seems to be taking over. I don't think it's a weed. Is it ok to pull it out?

Any other jobs I should be doing to maintain the garden whilst the weather is so beautiful?

Do I need to do anything to the daffodils?

Thanks

Hard to tell from the picture - is it lavender? Does it smell?
You don't have to keep anything you don't like! Daffodils just need deadheading when they are finished, leave all the leaves to make food for next years flowers

GuyFawkesDay · 10/04/2020 16:07

Could be lavender

Trethew · 10/04/2020 16:10

Looks like lavender. A bit scruffy right now as it’s only just starting into growth. Should be lovely in due course and perfect for bees and butterflies. Agree with daff advice above

Beebumble2 · 10/04/2020 16:59

Looks like Lavender, rub the leaves between your fingers. They should faintly smell of Lavender.

Thank you.

It doesn't smell like lavender. There is a lavender plant that smells lovely and I've attached a photo of it.

The branches of this plant look a bit rooty and tree-like and smells more herby/musty.

That's a picture of a rosemary, not a lavender!

MattBerrysHair · 10/04/2020 18:30

I'm pretty sure the first plant is lavender

Lucked · 10/04/2020 18:31

Can you take take a leaf and do a close up photo?

chipnightisthenestnight · 10/04/2020 18:34

I agree the second plant is rosemary. If your not sure on the first then wait a month or two and see if it flowers

Sennetti · 10/04/2020 18:36

first plant is lavender and there are quite a few different ones out there

Sennetti · 10/04/2020 18:38

second pic could be diosma?

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 10/04/2020 18:39

Is it ok to pull it out?
It's your garden, you do what the hell you like.

The second plant is deffo rosemary. The first one looks like lavender, which can get skanky and horrible when it gets overgrown.

CatChant · 10/04/2020 18:44

Agree first plant looks like lavender and the second is rosemary.

I'd leave the lavender to flower before deciding whether to get rid of it. It always looks a bit scruffy now but you're likely to be very pleasantly surprised in a couple of months.

And it smells beautiful and is a fabulous ground cover/weed suppressant.

If you can download either the google app (it has a camera feature) or plant identifier then you will be able to take a pic and it will tell you 😀

IAteAllTheCake · 10/04/2020 20:05

Worked out how to name changeSmile

Thanks @hillbiilly I will give that a go.

And thank you everyone else, I appreciate you all taking the time to help.

We managed to tear down a very dodgy looking, old and rusty greenhouse today...with only minor injuries to one party Grin

Here's some close-ups of the leaves of the plant that's trying to take over !

Could it be Oleander? If it is I would leave it as the flowers are so gorgeous! Pic is from google, sadly not mine.

I couldn't get mine to grow :(

Ok that’s clearer. Think it’s an osteospermum. Will have daisy style flowers in summer

ThomasHardyPerennial · 10/04/2020 20:20

Based on the new photos I think it looks like a wallflower. They can get incredibly woody.
