Im sure all the veterans on here are probably sick of us newbies with questions, but id really appreciate some help! Id like to grow a few tomato and strawberry plants, but am quite limited on where i could put them. I really I've been looking at hanging grow bags. Can anyone tell me if tomatoes can 'grow hanging upside down' if you know what i mean? or do they need a pole for support? The other thing that would work well would be those small pots with a hook that i could hang over the fence, again would they grow in those? any guidance appreciated!

If you're able to get seeds or plants, there are varieties of tomatoes designed for patio pots or hanging baskets, often with names like "Tumbling Tom". Otherwise, try to get hold of cherry tomatoes. Larger fruited tomatoes will fruit if their stems are hanging down, but there's a risk that the stems will break if they're bent at all. But if you're hanging the growbags, you could tie the tomatoes up to whatever you're hanging the grow bags by.

Small pots with a hook would be fine for strawberries, may be a bit small for tomatoes. I grow tomatoes in tubs 10-12 inches across and of similar depth.

You'll need to be able to water every day and perhaps twice a day if we get a hot summer. You'll also need to apply fertiliser once the plants are growing well - use a tomato or rose fertiliser (which has the nutrients for flower/fruit formation) rather than a general purpose fertiliser (which is geared towards leaf growth).

Rainwater guttering can be used to grow strawberries. Block off exact end and either fix to a wall or suspend by wire.
If possible you could make a wall of them.
Have a look on Pinterest for inventive ideas.

Thanks - great tips! The guttering idea is amazing! Can anyone tell me if sweet peppers can grow in small pots?

I used to grow tumbling Tom's in hanging baskets with lots of success at a previous house.

I grow sweet peppers in a medium sized pot (I use grow bag soil to fill it) but in a greenhouse. It's hard to get red peppers! I usually have green with a few half red half green.
