I am 40 this year and we were going to have a big party and a weekend away at luxury hotel in the Netherlands with 2* Michelin restaurant.

Now all cancelled Sad

However, it does mean I can finally justify getting the greenhouse I always wanted.

We already have a level, stone flagged area that could accommodate a 8x8ft but is in a bit of a wind tunnel.

Ideally I don't want to spend more than £1.5k as would like to add staging etc too

I think i'm buying myself a Rhino greenhouse for my 40th this year.

MereDintofPandiculation · 23/03/2020 10:48

I have a Robinsons 30 years old still in perfect condition.

fluffiphlox · 23/03/2020 10:50

Ours is Harrod. It’s excellent quality and finish.

Feelingfestivenow · 23/03/2020 11:06

We have been looking at Rhino as well, due to our position and where the greenhouse could go.

They look sturdy enough but a bit pricey, but there are some offers at the moment

BennyVegas · 23/03/2020 11:34

Think Rhino are the cheapest compared to Harrod and Robinson.

HardAsSnails · 23/03/2020 13:20

I chose a Rhino the end of last year and it is absolutely lovely, but do get the biggest you can fit/afford.

Feelingfestivenow · 23/03/2020 16:24

HardAsSnails, what did you place it on?

Looks like a concrete base would be best for us, and I am shocked at the other add ons I may need for inside.

I do like the green colour...

BennyVegas · 23/03/2020 19:51

I think we're going to lift some turf and put straight down on that. With gravel and a path of slabs inside

HardAsSnails · 23/03/2020 22:42

Feeling it's on a concrete pad. Mine is an 8x10 premium in blue grass, bought as a package offer:

EastCoastDamsel · 24/03/2020 11:29

How easy are they to put up yourself or did you get an installer? Just concerned that there won't be one available given the lockdown

The base needs to be firm and flat but doesn't need to be solid. Rhino's installation instructions state that onto firm, flat earth is fine for installation.

HardAsSnails · 24/03/2020 19:54

Our landscapers offered to assemble ours, it took longer than they expected, was incredibly fiddly, and they said that, whilst the assembly instructions were excellent , they'd recommend the installation service next time a customer had one!

I’m a rhino fan. Mine is on a concrete base. I put it up with a friend over two days. They supply comprehensive instructions which are perfect provided you follow them to the letter. It’s a quality product and I highly recommend them..

Trethew · 25/03/2020 21:39

Mine is green too. Agree with pp, get the biggest you can possibly afford. This is the first time I have had a new greenhouse, and the first time I have had a concrete base. Previously have had them on earth, or mixture of earth and paving slabs. I find the concrete is infinitely better, easier to manage, put pots on, keep tidy, less condensation, no slugs. It’s a huge heat store too. The frame is bolted to the concrete. It feels secure. Have not had to worry about recent gales. Photo from Jan when little activity. Crammed with seeds now

Thank you all for your advice. I have convinced DH and we are going to order one. I will do final measurements tomorrow for sizing.
