How do I treat powdery mildew on my gerbera?

I noticed this week my gerbera has white patches on the leaves. Google tells me this is powdery mildew but gives conflicting advice on treating it. Any ideas?

It's indoors, on the kitchen window sill.

I would wipe it off the leaves with a damp cloth or cotton wool and then apply either a homemade mixture for powdery mildew or a shop bought one.
I’ve found this quite effective.

Thanks @MellowMelly. I've snipped off the worst leaves and I'll get to the garden centre to get some treatment for the rest of it.

Try and find out what's causing it. In garden plants it's often being too dry at the roots. It's a bit like moss in lawns - you can kill it, but unless you solve the underlying drainage problem, the moss will keep coming back.

I googled. I think I'd over watered and had watered at the crown rather than the root. It also gets quite steamy in my kitchen when I cook with a lot of condensation on the windows.

I've cut off the worst leaves, let it dry out properly before watering again and had the window open as much as possible. No new mildew patches so far.

That’s good to hear. I love how much you are caring for your plant. You sound just like me Smile

@MellowMelly before last year I was hopeless with plants but I've gotten really into it now. I live in a first floor flat with a tiny balcony but last year I managed a bumper crop of cherry tomatoes, golden raspberries, roses, fuchsias, and jasmine.

I'm hoping to manage poppies, cosmos, and corn flowers this year. Possibly some carrots and tomatoes too.

As well as the orchids, cacti, succulents, gerbera, and senetti indoors!

@MushroomTree that sounds lovely and you sound really green fingered! It’s nice to hear that you’re planting some flowers this year too that will be beneficial to our insects which is what I’ve been focusing on the last few years.

@MellowMelly thank you. I'm definitely all about doing what you can for bees and other wildlife.

I've found gardening to be very satisfying and rewarding. I grew my tomatoes from seeds I got for free with my toddlers IKEA lunch! Grin some soil and a bit of care and I had 30 plants. I've only just finished the tomatoes I put in the freezer.
