Manual lawn mower

Does anyone use one of the old-fashioned push mowers (not electric) on their small lawn? I think my little Flymo is on it's way out and I get sick of messing around with extension cables trying to reach the end of my lawn. Would a manual struggle to cope with the first cut of the year, I've heard they don't do well with longer grass?

We have a cheapo manual one from b and q, and it works pretty well. The first cut of the year is a bit of a slog (i find it best to do a cut two consecutive days to give the grass a chance to perk back up). But once you get the hang of it you fly through - it's a pretty good workout.

I don't think the grass collection is as good as on an electric. I've given up with the bag and just rake it afterwards.

Thanks for the replies, it's given me something to think about. The grass collector on the mower I have now is pretty useless, so I don't mind too much about clippings being left on the lawn.

I bought myself one last year and I really love it. My husband thought it was hilarious Hmm then he saw how easy it was to just pick it up and go he was converted.
I just keep it at the back door and run it up and down the lawn whenever I fancy it.
I also ended up getting a manual trimmer for the edging and by the time my husband has got his strimmer out of the garage found the extension lead and plugged it in I'm already finished .

I've had this one for ten years
www.husqvarna.com/uk/products/lawn-mowers/hicut-64/964954003/
and absolutely love it.
It cuts long, short, wet, dry ~ its safe to use in the rain ~ it works any distance from the house ~ it works on slopes
with the grass collector on it leaves stripes
AND
when its not moving, nor are the blades - so I trained my kids to use it from age 10 Grin
