Growing fruit and veg with a young child

I live in the NE and I have a small yard with planters. What would be good to grow with a child. We already have strawberry plants but I’m not sure if they have survived the winter. I’m not very green fingered.

Our strawberries have survived the last few winters - you might be fine.

I gave tomatoes and cucumbers in pots a go last year and they produced loads. We had a small plastic greenhouse from Wilko that was cheap and seemed to help them grow.

Planning to do more this year

We've got raised beds and last year DS, who has just turned six, loved growing tomatoes and cucumbers and he especially loved digging up potatoes!
Potatoes are a good idea as they are perfect to grow in large tubs or sacks. He would put them and the tomatoes in his tipper truck and wheel it to the door. We'll do it all again this year.
Try reading 'Grow all you can eat in 3 square feet'. It's brilliant for small spaces.
Have fun growing!

We always grow tomatoes, onions and carrots. I might try cucumbers this year. And would like to grow potatoes.

Ooo how did you grow onions? I want to grow them this year.

We also have a blueberry plant in a pot. That produces more berries than I thought it would.

Runner beans or peas are easy to handle to plant. DS managed to help with those when 2. Runner beans come in a dwarf variety as well which might be better for pots

He and I are going to try potatoes this year.

Strawberry plants are pretty hardy.
