DH is a mega keen gardener and has set up a black tent with intense light in what was the ironing room. He uses it as a nursery for plants in the garden.

He has installed a reverse osmosis system (plastic thing next to sink in said ironing room) which produces distilled water.

I never go into the tent (looks like something in a sci fi film) but it all seems to work well once it's set up.

Sorry probably not much use but if you have any specific questions I'll ask dh for you

I've got an indoor garden thing in my kitchen. Google 'smart garden' or 'click and grow'. Same thing. The basil growing does she'll a bit like weed!

I got one for Christmas.

You can grow herbs, salad...

I'm three weeks in and the progress already is amazing. Lights are bright but it requires fuck all effort.

Good morning. Another thought from me - I was listening to gardeners question time last week or the week before and they were talking about how you can just replace regular bulbs with grow bulbs. So even if you just have a lamp you can switch the bulb and that'll really help grow your herbs. Same with plants in dark corners of your home.

Hydroponic systems grow plants not in soil but in water that is enriched with nutrients. ... You'll need an air pump to introduce oxygen into the water, but it can be simply made with Ikea storage bins, a foam cooler, a bucket or any other container, as long as it sits in a place that gets a lot of light.

I’ve never tried it long term but basil roots marvellously well in water, as does mint and lemon balm and oregano so those two I imagine would do well with permanently wet feet.

I also have plants growing with their tops out in the air and roots under water in my aquarium - draecena (lucky bamboo), two types of tradescantia and peace lily.

For those who don't know hydroponics is a type of horticulture and a subset of hydroculture that involves growing plants without soil, by using mineral nutrient solutions in an aqueous solvent. I have some experience in this field, I am trying it for a while and I really like it. I buy everything from adelaideorganichydro.com.au/ plus they provide some tutorial videos on youtube which are very helpful, especially when you are a beginner. So, if you want to try it then I am very happy and I wish you good luck.
