Weird shaped garden west facing garden

HI there - we are buying a house with an odd shaped garden and I'm not sure what to do with it. I've attached a pic of the plan - it's the plot marked 2B. the house is 6 m wide and the garden is 12 metres long, but it's a really odd shape, it is also West facing. At the moment it is just grass, with a deck outside the back of the house, but I would love to transform it to an wild life haven full of cottage garden plants.
We'll use it mostly for looking at from the dining room, and for sitting out during the summer (if we actually get any sun!) so it won't need to be particularly functional. I feel like it is the one weak spot of a lovely house, and we will need to sell one day, so I would be willing to pay for a designer to get it right from the start.
I wondered about maybe trying to buy some garden from the house next door but that looks complicated/expensive.
I have googled, but most design sites seem to show massive gardens, whereas this is pretty small.
Any advice, links or (London based) designer recommendations would be really appreciated :D

We have a west facing garden too. The right wall is very sunny and even the eucalyptus died from not watering it enough in the sun! The bottom is shade and grows woodland plants under mature fruit trees, and it grows succulents very well in a rockery. The left wall is morning shade and afternoon sun and has been good for the silver birch trees, raspberries and bergenia. We have a central lawn but it's been terrible for moss, particularly compared to our previous south facing garden. I'm not sure if it's an orientation or a soil thing though.

I hope that you don't get selfish neighbours to your left like us, who are ruining our entire garden with a monstrous extension blocking all the sun! We will still have our sunsets though, which are just great with a west facing garden.

Hi SecondaryBurnzzz I like your update!
There was an episode of Garden Rescue recently where they put a statue and climbers as the main focal point from the house. So possibly between the two lawn circles on your plan. If you can watch on iplayer it might help with your planning.

How lovely to have a blank canvas! You're right, silver birch can get very tall and so can hawthorn. Consider something that won't get as big - an amelanchier maybe? or one of the smaller flowering cherries? or a crab apple? RHS plant finder will help you find the right one for you. Very glad you are looking at some nice deep borders rather than a foot-wide strip. My current favourite well-behaved shrubs in my garden are Daphne and Vibernum Carlessii because they both smell divine. Is your garden fully enclosed? Will everything have to come through the house? You might want to make a false end to the garden with compost bins and a shed behind?

Unfortunately the next door neighbours have huge conifers between them and the road, so we only get a glimmer of light into the garden in the afternoon, so i think that technically a small part of the garden is in partial shade and the rest in deep shade!
I am going to get some clematis going up the fences I think, and then plant the pants I have ordered from Crocus (if they arrive) and see how they do. I feel I should do as Monty says and mulch the beds after I have dug them, but not sure what with! I can get some compost delivered (maybe) but do I want mushroom, horse or some other compost. I will be planting into the beds shortly.
Thanks everyone!
