Its very difficult from those pictures. Need a close up of the leaves. But possibly a silver birch

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 30/10/2019 08:57

I thought Silver Birch too.

GrimalkinsCrone · 30/10/2019 08:58

I agree, it looks like a silver birch.

greendays1 · 30/10/2019 09:09

Thanks guys are these species of trees likely to be protected with TPO?

That looks too young to have a TPO. Council can advise. If it is a silver birch please keep it - they are beautiful

kjhkj · 30/10/2019 09:35

It really depends on where you are. I live in an area where every single tree (even a tiny sapling) is technically covered by a blanket TPO.

But silver birches are fast growing, short lived, shallow rooted, low value trees in general.

Thehagonthehill · 30/10/2019 09:40

It's a sapling silver birch.
Doesn't have big roots so not usually a problem. That one is so small that you should probably dig it out.
They are nice trees though.

Noflora · 30/10/2019 09:42

I agree with Silver Birch. If it is on a new build estate then it may well be protected. Councils can stipulate tree planting as part of the development permission.

yellowallpaper · 30/10/2019 09:54

Silver birch I think. When our properties were built the builders put one of these in every front garden. Years down the line they've all gone. Not for small front gardens for sure

yellowallpaper · 30/10/2019 09:55

We had to keep them for a night, her of years under the builders covenant

yellowallpaper · 30/10/2019 09:55

Number of years

xraytangocharlie · 30/10/2019 22:46

This planet needs all the trees it can get.

MereDintofPandiculation · 31/10/2019 10:04

Bark would suggest silver birch. It won't necessarily outgrow its spot - very popular at the moment is Betula utilis x jaquemontii which is slower growing and has whiter bark. The food thing about them is they have relatively sparse foliage so don't cast so dense a shade as some other trees.

Unlikely to have a TPO - they don't even look at trees until the trunk is 75mm at a height of 150cm above ground, and then only if someone has brought it to their attention. But may well be covered under a covenant in your house deeds. Are you wanting to get rid of it, or do you like it and are worried that someone else might want to get rid of it?
