So I was reading about the 'three sisters' thing that native americans traditionally did with winter squashes, corn and beans as companion plants, with the beans climbing up the corn to give it more stability in wind, the corn giving the squashes shade and the squash leaves keeping the area moist and weed free. I'd love to give it a go but I've read elsewhere that winter squashes can struggle a bit here (I'm in Ireland) because our summers are so pants, so presumably the three sisters is a no-no for me because the last thing I want is corn shading my squashes?
Disclaimer: I haven't grown any of these before so I haven't a clue what I'm talking about; this is all planning for a house move to somewhere with the land to accommodate stuff.
