It’s for DS’s homework but I can’t for the life of me remember where I picked it up from.

What is this leaf?

How big is it?

takeanotherchillpill · 01/10/2019 18:49

Beech?

MrsRufusdog789 · 01/10/2019 18:51

Definitely a beech leaf .

AdaColeman · 01/10/2019 18:53

Another vote for beech!

MaximumDerek · 01/10/2019 22:15

I thought beech too but here it is next to a beech and I think they are different.

Elm maybe although we don’t have many elm trees around my way

TheLurkingOne · 01/10/2019 22:28

Birch

MereDintofPandiculation · 02/10/2019 10:34

Too serrated for beech, elm is distinguishable by the markedly unequal sides to the base of the leaf, birch is wider at the base than that leaf. I wondered Amelanchier, but that's more oblong, not so tapered at the tip, and also wondered hornbeam, but don't think it's that either.

"It’s for DS’s homework ... where I picked it up from." Grin

MaidenMotherCrone · 02/10/2019 10:38

Hazel?

Limer · 02/10/2019 10:39

Silver birch

MaidenMotherCrone · 02/10/2019 10:40

No not hazel but maybe Alder?

Ohyesiam · 02/10/2019 10:43

Alder buckthorn?

MaximumDerek · 02/10/2019 22:09

MereDintofPandiculation Grin he might have picked it up, I can’t remember! He’s only 4 though, he’d bloody better do it when he’s older...

MereDintofPandiculation · 03/10/2019 18:37

Hazel and Alder are much broader than this leaf. Alder buckthorn has a similar vein patter to dogwood if I remember rightly, so not that either.

There's an app with a UK version for identifying leaves.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 05/10/2019 19:30

That looks like a birch leaf. How big is it?

Fatshedra · 06/10/2019 06:53

Birch

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/10/2019 09:37

It really isn't birch! It's got the texture of birch, but birch leaves are more triangular in shape.

I know, I'm being singularly unhelpful on this thread, saying what it isn't, but no clue as to what it is ...

Fatshedra · 06/10/2019 17:45

It could be elder, they have a serrated edge, but are usually a more oval shape.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 06/10/2019 17:51

Birch leaves can be oval too. That's definitely birch.

onyourway · 06/10/2019 18:24

Try the British Trees app (or so says my ds who is a woodland nut)
