Has anyone had luck with planting these from seed? My dsis gave me some seeds from hers but while ( whatever they are ) have grown very well they are NOT EVP !! They are tall plants with little tiny yellow fluffy daisy like flowers it sounds nice but they aren't nice. Confused

I have EVP in my garden which has self-seeded all over the place, including in the corners of walls and an area totally covered by ground elder so I think it's pretty hardy stuff. If I just want to try cheap seeds I usually get some pretty cheap from eBay and chuck them around - worth a try?

Thanks Mayor Lucky you Grin Do you have clayey soil? My soil is very light\sandy maybe that's why they didn't germinate correctly.

I've got a plant growing between a bit of gravel and my drive. Hardly any earth there.

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2019 09:01

Is it in flower Troys ?

I have some magnificent Evening Primrose

First lot came via a box of wildflower box from Aldi, they were the only ones that came out.

They have now self seeded in several places. I think you can get plugs from the natural seed company. Will try and find a link when on my laptop

Presumably some sort of weed took advantage of the space you'd prepared for the evening primrose seeds.

Some biennials, IME, grow well if they self seed but not if you bring in seed - eg I've never managed to grow a foxglove from a packet, but I've got loads all over my garden as the result of buying a couple of plants years ago.

Perhaps if your sister's plants self seed she could pot up a few seedlings for you once they've got going and you could try those instead?

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2019 09:49

Yes that's a good idea Errol thanks. I'll ask her.

I've had no luck with foxglove seeds either, both planted in situ and in pots. Though it's been very dry here and I can't water when I'm away. DH isn't able to water without a hosepipe!

Yes but it's taken a hammering with the 60mph winds we've had here.

Sorry for the blurry photo but you get my drift.

Oldraver · 10/08/2019 11:34

Oh Troy, one of mine was up rooted and hopefully will live now I've put it back

If you live in Oxfordshire you can dig one of mine up OP

Oldraver · 10/08/2019 11:38

Oh and forgot to say... I have successfully moved a plant that was about 3ft, it looked silty for a while but recovered

Does you DS have any new plants coming up ? I have a few showing on the ground and quite frankly could be mistaken for a weed, but I recognise them now

TroysMammy · 10/08/2019 11:38

It wasn't even one I planted. It just popped up and I let it grow Smile. Thanks for the offer but I'm in South Wales.

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2019 11:59

Thanks oldraver But I live between London and mid west France, it's a bit tricky to find the time to travel away from my well beaten tracks!
